Using Buffalo Bore 30 Carbine ammo, both their 110 gr and 125 gr loads, I began to experience problems pulling back the hammer on my Blackhawk. Finally, it stopped going back all together.

I called Ruger and after some quibbling, they agreed to pay for shipping in both directions. I got the gun back in record time: about 10 days.

The only statement about what was actually fixed is: “replaced hammer plunger”.

Ever seen or heard tell of such a problem with Blackhawks?

Yep had it happen to my Blackhawk Hunter in .44. It did the same thing. I decided to take it apart and see if I could tell what it was. That piece has a notch in it and a spring. Part of it fell out out when I took it apart. I had no clue it was there and found info online how to replace. Ordered 2 and 2 springs from Midway and fixed it myself. Kept one for a back up.

Yup, pretty common deal. The hammer plunger bends or breaks, won’t unlock the cylinder stop bolt, so the hammer pushes the pawl against the locked cylinder, and “that big wheel DON’T keep on turning...”

Quick and easy fix. I tend to do an over length replacement to create a “dragless” operation between the bolt and cylinder.
