Ruger M77, Leupold Scope Mounting

I want to get a Leupold scope for my dad to put on his Ruger M77 .30-06 (tang safety). Probably one of the VX-Is. Would the only thing necessary to mount it be one of the one inch ring sets listed here?

Also, any recommendations for power range and objective size? Something that will work out to 400 yards, preferably.

The Ruger rifle may already have the mounts installed on it. They come standard with most ruger firearms. If not you can purchase the Ruger rings at most sporting good stores that carry optics for a better price than listed on thier web site.
As far as the scope goes I believe a 3x9 is more than enough for 400 yard shots.

Heh. Yeah, it did come with mounts. But some years ago our new puppy got into the drawer they were in and chewed them up.
