Ruger Mk I vs Mk II

Can't help you with the date right now (don't have my books with me), but the difference between the MkI and MkII is that the MkI doesn't have a bolt hold-open/slide stop. HTH

Doesnt the MkI mag also have the little follower-button on the opposide side from the MkII mags (the factory mags let you swap the button over to the other side, IIRC)?

The mark II also has the milled reciver back by the bolt making it easier to grab.

Model number problem here.

The Ruger standard model made before 1982 (I assume hkmp5sd is correct) was not the Mark I. It was just the Standard Model. The Mark I was the target version with Micro sights, available in a 5" bull barrel, a 7" heavy barrel, and (IIRC) a 10" barrel.

When Ruger made the change (as described above) all the models were designated as Mark II series.

I like MK1's . incidentally the barrel was 6 7/8" and heavy tapered. I have one done up by Clark in 79 and it SHOOTS. Also a 1955 std 6" that is deadly accurate to 50 yds! And a Real Old red eagle 4".:D

Hkmp5sd is correct. The Mark 2 came out in 1982. The grip frames were changed on the Mark 1 in 1971 to accomodate the follower button for the 9 round mags on the left side. Prior to that the slot in the frame was on the right side.
