Hey guys. I am new to this site and just received my conceal carry permit and am looking into getting a compact 1911. I have owned a Ruger SR1911(full size) and am now interested in either getting the compact version of the Ruger or a Kimber compact cdp ii. The Ruger never gave me any problems and I have never owned a Kimber. I hear different things about Kimbers from opposite ends of the spectrum. Money is not the main factor here, I am wondering what you guys would go with out of the two? I find both pistols to be appealing but I am concerned about issues such as reliability and customer service, etc. Thank you

Speaking from VERY limited experience with a Ruger Commander-size 1911 (one afternoon with a friend's pistola) I can say that I'd be very pleased to own one. If the Ruger is appreciably less-expensive than the Kimber, the Ruger would be my choice.

I've owned 1911s of one sort or another continuously since 1968, and I can recognize a decent example when it comes to hand.

As a lefthander, I do have to make some alterations to most 1911s, but that's just a normal proceeding. The Ruger we tried functioned perfectly through 100 rounds, and accuracy seemed fine in informal shooting. Workmanship was impressive. This was a new gun, and it didn't seem to need any break-in period as such.

Thanks for the input Bruce. I previously owned a Ruger Sr1911 and never had one jam or hiccup while firing it. The only reason I sold it was to get the Commander version and while looking at one I saw the Kimber compact cdp ii and I really liked it. I just want to know if the Kimber would be worth the extra $ because I have no problem at all getting the Commander.
