Has anyone tried any of these? They look to be bimetal Barnaul or Wolf components. The sale price is quite a bit lower than bulk .223 Winchester FMJ's so I'm thinking about picking some up for plinking.

I've shot a lot of 'em as assembled cartridges...
I suppose there's some risk of faster wear in non-chrome-lined barrels, since there's some risk the bullets are a little harder than copper jacketed. But in a chrome-lined barrel, I would go for it.

Hey Poodle,
I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but I got a big supply of Russian 30 caliber bullets about two years ago from Weidener's. They are 123 grain, full metal jacket, spitzer nose, and a flat lead exposed base. The jackets sure look like copper, but they are attracted to a magnet. They are intended for the 7.62X39 ammunition and work real well in my SKS and AK-47 rifles. I have a Ruger Mini-30 and a Colt AR-15 in 7.62X39, but I use regular .308 bullets in them.

Sounds the like the same type David. I just picked up 1000 of them-62gr softpoint .224" for $31. They'll be going through a chrome bore as plinking ammo. I'd get the .311's but I can't reload 7.62x39 as cheap as Wolf and Barnaul can sell it. With .223 I can beat their price,and I don't have to deal with the lacquer issue or losing extractors. It should be interesting to see what accuracy I can get from these.
