Rust Under Grips

I've got two S&W Model 29s, one with Hogue and the other with Pachmayr grips. Both sets of grips have been on a very long time without being removed, probably upwards of 20 years. I took them off and both have small areas of surface rust at the bottom of the frame where the grip pin is. The rust came off easily with a soft brass brush and I gave it a light coat of oil to protect that area. Should I do anything else to prevent the rust from returning? I thought about using a rust remover to totally stop the rust and maybe cold blue to protect the metal. Anyone else fix rust in these areas? I never even thought about rust forming under the grips. Luckily, that area is out of sight.

To prevent rusting under grips, apply a medium-thick coat of a good wax. (Not car wax. Something like Renaissance Museum Wax)
Don't wipe it off, let dry 20 minutes and install the grips.

The wax coating will seal the metal and prevent any corrosion caused by sweat or moisture.
Rubber grips are worse because rubber won't absorb any moisture like wood will.

Bluing wont prevent new rust from forming. For this application, Renaissance Wax is your friend.
Thanks!

There are solvents that will cut through anything. I take the grips off frequently and clean underneath. Same as caring for the exterior of the gun.

When you clean the gun, simply take the grips off and clean the entire exterior. I'm a big fan of Ren Wax myself, but whatever you do to the rest of the gun will work under the grips too.
