Howdy all. I just bought a Smith and Wesson model 17-3 revolver and had some questions about it. Was the 17-3 made between 1967 and 1977? Did it originally come with wood target grips? Did the front sight have an orange insert?

I'm asking all these questions because I haven't been able to find a picture of a 17-3 that looks like mine.

My 17-3 did come with factory wood target grips as well as NOT having an orange ramp front sight. You are correct with saying the 17-3 was made between 1967-1977.

Some came with the target package (hammer, trigger, and stocks) and some did not. Some came with a combination of the parts. The vast majority of them didn't come with the ramped front sight. They had the Patridge sight.

Nice looking model 17, Gunkwazy. What is that, an 8 1/2 inch barrel?

Thanks for the info Majic. Would you happen to know where I can buy a set of used wood target grips for my model 17? Mine has rubber Pachmyers at the moment. They fit my large hands OK but I'd like to get some original grips too.
