S&W 1911 guys

Have they discontinued models or something so quickly? Looking around at retailers & gunbroker etc, alot of the models I see for SALE, are not listed on S&W's site.

Which are the stainless commanders (NO ambi safeties), either ss or sc frames, just so I'll have model numbers to hone in on to get started.

S&W's product code #108282 is still in production, and perhaps one of the
best kept secrets of the firearms trade. Its a 5" all stainless 1911, with
Novak low mount three dot sights, and rubber grips. I retail 'em for the
low price of $709.88~!

I wouldn't worry about not being able to find certain models on gun manufacturers websites - they don't seem to do a great job on staying current.

Try checking out the large online retailers (Buds Gun Shop for ex.) to see what models are out there. And I'm sure you will get a lot of shop owners here let you know what the specific model #'s are for what you're looking for.

Yeah Buds is where I buy most often. But for instance, this one: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/manufacturers_id//products_id/18169 is pretty close to what I want, but lists as having a ambi safety. Just in trying to verify features, found a blue one remarkably similar on S&W home page, but w/single sided safety (preferred).

My 108288 did not come with the ambi safety, and I'm pretty sure that's a typo.

I don't really like ambi safety's on my weapons. Only real need, maybe if
you are a southpaw shooter. My S&W 1911 (#108282) runs like a champ,
and I would not hesitate to recommend one too my friends.

Yeah and as much as I love Buds, one thing they won't do is go actually check on details like that for you, because the guys you talk to on the phone say the inventory is in a warehouse and they can't actually look at them.

Anyways, now that I know S&W is putting the MELONITE treatment on at least one of their 1911's, I am holding out for a commander (or at least non RAILED ) version of that.

S&W has apparently been responding to the market and has changed some of their SW1911 offerings.

For example, the SW1911SC 5" (stainless slide & clearcoat frame) has recently been discontinued. Other models have been introduced. Their SW1911 line has grown quite a bit since introduced.
