I want to purchase a model 66 S & W, but I've read where the 66 no dash models may be subject to cylinder rubs or lock-up and that the other model 66s, such as -1, -2, etc do not have this problem. Can anyone clarify this ?
Thanks.

I had to it's use with magnum ammo and the heat being transfered to the different alloys.

The K-frame S&W M-19 was envisioned as the perfect LE revolver...to be shot mostly with .38spl loads and carried with magnum loads for duty. The stainless alloys used in the M-66 had different properties which could cause the cylinder to "tie-up".

S&W went through a series of different revisions to try to solve the problem

The very early Model 60 and 66 stainless revolvers had some problems with heat causing the metal to expand and cause binding issues.

S&W quickly solved the problem and only very early guns had the problem.
For the most part, if the gun has the very early bare stainless steel rear sights, it might still have the problem.

As far as I know the binding problem was only with the early guns. I've owned plenty of 19's and 66's with no problems. These are my favorites of all the S&W's made. Light weight and able to fire magnums on a limited basis.
