Saw an MC Operator I was interested in at a shop today. They don't seem to take the best care of their inventory so I examine any potential purchases very closely.

I noticed a rough patch, pretty subtle, on the frame, right below the slide. Noticable but you have to look and you can feel it with your finger.

Possible rust under the finish? Normal? Otherwise it looked great.

Any thoughts?

You may want to double check with Springfield's CS. I have heard that they will not warranty service(free) their firearms unless its from the original owner. I have also heard otherwise, that they will service their firearms regardless of how many hands it has went through. When I had my TRP serviced, their CS did ask me if I was the original owner, but they did not request proof.

I had a MC Operator. Never had a problem with the finish. A friend of mine had one as well, no issues finish wise. My TRP has an armorykote finish , same as the MC Operators. I haven't noticed anything wrong with the finish. One of the first places that the finish will wear away is on the nose of the slide, from holster wear.

that's what springer's warranty says in writing, but they've told me repeatedly on the phone "they cover their guns no matter who was the original owner", and it's true.

i got free part under warranty for a used operator i bought :)

Possible a new gun could begin rusting in a shop case or is the armory kote too good for that to be likely?

Not worried about it if it's superficial but rust never sleeps.
