I recently bought a new safe and want to set up a better lighting system than I have in y other. My other safe has small LED lights that are push button. The problem with this is they are battery operated and you have to turn all of them on individually.

What I would like are light that light up all areas of the safe well and has an external power source. I will run the cord through the same plug hole as my golden rod. Any suggestions and pics are appreciated. Thanks

Jeff

I wanted the exact same thing and looked into all sorts of things. My solution was to use "rope lights" like what you see put up in Christmas decorations. It appears to be a series of very small lights encased in plastic. I ran it along the inside of the safe and it does not get hot at all.

If you want a picture let me know and I'll take one.

Fluorescent under the cabinet /over the sink Kitchen fixtures, that come with the single bulb.

Inexpensive ones - about $5.
Lighting supply places with better quality and the "Natural North Light" bulb about $15 each last time I bought two.

If you find the right flavor of these that are designed for multiple installations, you can slave them together on a single swtch and the plug into each other kind of like Christmas lights.

X2 on the rope lights, but put them in back of the safe, I have then in front on one and its give great light but anything in back is well sorta lost, so I ran another one 12ft string and Wow it really lights up, put one of those power strips with the toggle on and off near the top, turns them off and on.
I use solid product for moisture, as here in Az. we don't have much of a problem with it except for a month or so.

Pictures

I said some time ago I would post pictures and I finally got a break to do it.

The first two pictures show a step-switch I bought at Walmart for about $6. It's an extension cord, step on it once to deliver power to the outlets and a second time to cut power. It's a really good addition no matter which lights you choose.

The next three just give you an idea how I routed the lights around. Your safe may be set up differently. My other two safes have a different setup inside so the lights are routed differently.

If you want more pictures or any clarification on anything feel free to let me know.

By the way, sorry the pictures are so large. I actually cut them to a quarter their original size. Next time I'll cut them further.

I think I may try mounting them with the zip ties that have the loops on the ends for screws.

I have a set up put out by Browning consisting of rope lights(110v) with a magnetic switch. A magnet mounts on the door, the switch on the door frame, all inside the safe. The magnet pulls the switch to the off position when the door is closed, when the door opens the switch turns on.
