Safety types bolt action rifle poll

I like a top tang safety or 700 type safety equally. I prefer the bolt being locked with the safety on like my Weatherby over the 700 that doesn't lock the bolt. A three position tang like Savage's is really good/nice. All the way back bolt locked and safety on, forward one position bolt unlocked safety on, all the way forward safety off. Just doesn't have to swing out like the model 70.

My hunting rifles are Win 70s and a Ruger 77 African, all with 3-position wing safeties. I particularly like the bolt and trigger lock when I'm hiking. Now I don't really trust technology more complicated than a knife and fork but I think this set-up is a good one. It doesn't replace the four safety rules but it's a good help.

Sadly, my southpaw middle son (with a normal length thumb) is less enamored of it than I might otherwise be. One of the benefits of a tang safety is that they're (usually) inherently ambi.

I much prefer a tang-mounted, 3-position safety. My least favorite is the 2-position safety that does not lock the bolt down when on "safe".
