Location
somewhere in the state of ID
please do a search on this location(that is, until I figure out how to take a picture of it from the air). location 43°30'16" N 116°17' 40".(http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...99,-116.294585&spn=0.003969,0.006877&t=h&z=17)

What you should be looking at is a semi popular shooting field. you should see a dirt roads going out in a spider effect. in the center where the roads seem to meet is a popular place for shooters. The area around the center is rather hilly so almost any target with any more than 30 yards is shooting in an upward direction.

I've shot there a few times and the field has some occasional ground squirrels. It can be convenient a lot of other shooters it seems. It even has a sign directed at shooters saying please don't dump trash and please help keep this place clean and have fun(or something similar). oddly enough i cleaned and entire large dumpster bin for of shot up trash.(beside the point)

My only problem is that it might be too close to civilization. Am I over-thinking this and should I consider going back?

forgive the rough language/wording.

i would use it for .22lr shooting east, but nothing else. the trails around the site could be used by hikers, ATV's, whatever, and with hearing protection on, you wouldn't be able to hear them screaming "hey! we're here! don't shoot!" too much risk in my opinion.

Zanad,

Is the location a shallow valley running NW/SE? How far can you shoot in those directions without having to place your targets up hill? I'm guessing that to the NW of the intersection you may have a relatively flat shot along the trail/center of the valley for perhaps 400 ft. To the SE perhaps 100 ft. The slopes to the NE and SW appear to be steeper and I don't see any good options that aren't pretty close range.

I wouldn't shoot to the SW because there appears to be a commercial pit operation within a mile.

Is that BLM land and are the dirt roads maintained or just jeeping trails?

when I shoot, I shoot relatively close(less than 50 yards) I ussully only shoot .22's. i ussully shoot where that junk pile is. I dont do long range stuff.

as to HSO's Q: the valley is running right alog the entrance/exit road. on the east side its flat for about 30 yards then starts sloping( looking on google earth might help with with what I'm trying to say.)

"Is that BLM land and are the dirt roads maintained or just jeeping trails?"

I'm not sure who owns it but mud runners can be spotted shortly after a rainfall.

with this info, am I safe to plink?
