I was at my local gun shop today and saw a SAR-1 AK but was a pump gun. Looks like barrel may have been changed, there's nothing in the gas tube as the gas block doesn't work. The front sight is mounted on the top of the gas block and the rear sight is welded on top of the dust cover.

Anyone ever heard of anything like that?

I was wondering though...without the gas rod and bolt moving after firing (possibly less muzzle rise and twist), is it possible that this rifle could be more accurate than a standard AK?

Last question is where can I find a Romy dust cover so I can put away the one with the sight welded on top.

the exist, J&G was seeling them for like 200-250 IIRC

the pump on these is remarkably heavy from what i hear

the action of a gun has little effect on a single rounds accuracy

any dust cover will fit

That's a PAR-1. My buddy got into those because they where cheap, < $200 total. He's got 1 PAR-1 (7.62) and 2 PAR-3 (.223).

-Accuracy is the same as any SAR in same the caliber.

-The barrel is threaded 14X1 lefthand under the tack welded cover.

-As mentioned the barrel and gas block are not drilled. They go so far as to drill an extra hole through the gas block so it's very hard to convert to semi.

-Yes, my buddy did succeed in converting one of the PAR-3 to semi-auto by drilling a gas port in the barrel and carefully drilling the gas block by hand. That was it. It will run, without the pump part, racking it with a screw driver, with everything else stock.

He's since added a Romy 74 bolt carrier (to gain a charging handle) with US piston, US FCG, and US brake and grip to be 922r compliant. It was a pain in the a$$ to do he said, but doable with a drill, a vise, and a BFH. A normal Romy gasblock/front sight is available from K-var and would make life easier (easier to drill port) but the purpose was to do the conversion cheap.
