Heya all, any one tell me abought the Savage modle 99F in .308?

One of my local shops has one and it's a really neet looking lever gun. Want's $450.00 for it, and I would say it's in 75% shape. The stock is walnute but has a lot of flavor, almost tiger striped but the blueing is't that good, didn't have a chance to look at the barrel.

I just bought what you described in 98% for $500-gladly. The blue book is high on this model's value and for good reason! They were and ARE the King of Savages IMHO! The .308 chambering means modern metallurgy and all the improvements . These guns were fitted by the good old craftsmen in Mass. until about when the top tang safety went on. While the safety position is nice, like on my .358 99 Brush gun, the quality and finish isn't near as nice. I think this happened ,as it did to Win, Marlin and Rem, somewhere around 63-66 depending on individual samples.A 70% gun doesn't all that much finish left usually! Are you sure its not 85-90% (just a little blue wear and small dings on stock)? IMHO these 99F's are gonna go up, and the .308 is gonna be the most desired cal for shooters!;)

Does that model have the detachable box magazine rather than the old spool type? Sounds like a nice piece in .308 Win.

If you don't want it, I do.

I have a 99 in .300 Savage that is my favorite brush gun. A 308 would be a nice compliment.

Go buy the thing already.

I'm right there with you Smoke. I too have an old 99 in .300 Savage and I would trade almost any of my other guns to get a good 99 in .308 caliber...

That and a tang sight for my .300 Savage. I've seen them around, but $150-250 for a rear sight is a little steep for me right now.

WHY IS IT THAT WILLIAMS CAN'T MAKE A BLOODY PEEP SIGHT FOR THE 99?

Well I did pick her up, talk abought a nice rifle, I'll try to post a pic when I get glass mounted on her.

Thanks for the input gents!

I want my 99EG .250 Savage back!
Buy it, you won't regret the decision!
You will regret passing up the opportunity to own one of these great rifles.
