When you want to swap barrels on a Savage 110 how do you line up the iron sights or the scope mounts so that it is in the correct place each time?

Does the barrel have a slot it slides in and then the barrel nut just tightens it up like a ferrule nut on plumbing fittings?

I am told the switching barrel option is easy and can be done without having to go to a gunsmith.

I have never taken a barrel off, thus the questions.

TIA

Iron sights would be a problem. However the scope mounts to the receiver so it wouldn't matter how the barrel was turned. You will need a go and no go guage to set the headspace properly, you can put witness marks on it to make it simpler the next time. The barrel scresw into the receiver and the lock nut is tightened against the receiver.

Pretty much as Chawbaccer, mentioned.

Iron sights would be a problem unless you have a reference mark for barrel and receiver. That's providing that you would be swapping barrels back and forth.

Changing barrels back and forth will usually require a session of re-zeroing of the scope for each barrel. Highly unlikely that you would have the same POI with different barrels.

Great responses.....

Now, where would be the best place to purchase a 22 in. long 6.5x55 barrel?
Does Savage make one in that caliber?
Who makes one as good as a Savage barrel with the barrel nut?
TIA

Check with Midway, they usually have kits with the barrel, nut, wrench and gauges.
