I've looking into rifles with iron sights. My rifle range is 25-100yrs and I want to use irons for the challenge and practice.
I bumped into the Savage Hog Hunter .308 at an LGS for $459 over the weekend and fell for it. Not knowing anything about them, I put it on "hold" to do some research. All I can find is good :) but no one talks much about actually using the irons.
So does anybody here have comments, advice or experience shooting these rifles with the irons?
thx

No experience shooting an iron-sighted bolt-action .308 with that particular marketing name, but lots of experience on others.

Focus on the front sight and gently press the trigger.

Thanks
Any specifics on using the Hog Hunters sights? Looking down the barrel in the shop they seemed alright but not as effective as the Ruger GSR's peep & blade.

That's my assessment as well. The older I get the more I appreciate peep sights.

From what I can tell the majority of people that buy new bolt actions with iron sights are only using them as backup sights in case their scope breaks. The old school shooters who actually like iron sights seem to use military surplus rifles not new hunting rifles.
