Are there any Savage Model 22-250 shooters with any COAL suggestions? I'm loading for a Model 10, 22" barrel, 1 in 12 twist. I know what the Standard COAL is, but has anyone tried going longer/shorter, with an eye toward accuracy. I'm loading 55grn Hornady V-Max over 38 grns of H380. Any suugestions are greatly appreciated...

345 DeSoto,

I would suggest you get the Hornady O.A.L. Gauge and determine the base-to-ogive dimensions of your chamber. I seat my bullets so they are .010" off the lands unless I am restricted by magazine length, in which case I seat them as long as I can and have them feed thru the magazine.

IF you don't jam the bullets hard into the lands and IF the cartridges feed though your magazine, YOUR OAL is right for your rifle. Experiment inside those parimeters to find what actually works best for accuracy.
