Long time gun owner here but I am actually buying my first rifle I want to put a scope on, a Mini 14 Tactical. Can someone please recommend a compact scope for that rifle. I am looking for a traditional non-battery operated scope. Also, no ACOG type scopes either. The price point I am looking for is under $300 and the closer to $200, the better. As small as possible and good out to 150 yards. Thanks in advance for any forthcoming info.

Burris 1-4x scopes should fit that price range. They're sturdy and should hold up very well with the Mini-14.

I like the Weaver Classic V 1.5-3. That is what I run on one of my AR's and I shoot out to 200 yards regularly with it.

The Nikon .223 1-4x20 is what i have on my mini, and i highly recommend taking a look at them.
Running in leupold low rings its low enough to get a decent cheek weld. Two down sides to using the low rings ive noticed, are that the turrets are large and shells hit it on the way out, and you have to remove the rear sight to use the lower rings.

I've got the Bushnell Trophy XLT Riflescope 1.75-4x32mm with circle x reticle in matte black (Bushnell 731432) on my Mini14 Ranch Rifle and I absolutely love it. It's also well below $200. I would advise getting Ruger's 1 inch rings made for the Mini 14 to mount it. It holds zero great and is crystal clear.

Here's a link to what the scope looks like from a retailer (mods, I do not know if this allowed, if not feel free to delete it):

Leupold 1x4 20 mm pig plex. $229.99 from MidwayUSA.

I too like the the Weaver Classic 1-3x for your application. I've had one for a couple of years. It is a very good scope, light and clear glass. I got this with a Burris PEPR mount 1 years ago for +/-$250. You should still be able to get this scope and a mount for under $300.

Another would be the Nikon Monarch African 1-4x. I have one of these as well. It is a fantastic scope, very clear glass and very nice turrets.

MidwayUSA usually has both of these priced right and Midway always has promo codes.

edit: I bought the weaver 1 year ago, not 2.

+1 on the Weaver 1-3x. That was the consensus after I searched several hours in all the online forums and product reviews. The reasoning is for the true 1x option for very quick acquisition and with both eyes open, 3x is plenty for the range of the Mini, clear glass, compact size, and great value. It's value was comparable to scopes in the $500 range but goes for 1/3 the price. Just got mine from midway for $160.
