Scopes!!!

I'm starting research on NICE scopes. I want to do some long range shooting, and I feel my bushy elite will some day not be enough for what I want to do.


I'm pretty sure I've found a good 1/2 moa load for the rifle. That proves my sub 1k rifle (excluding optics, and mounting hardware) budget build a success for the goals of the project. With that step out of the way, I'm gonna wanna put the best optics I can on it now.

I'm looking at a 1500 budget, give or take. Looking at vortex razors, swarvski, night force, leupold, possibly uso if I can find one used. Vortex vipers pst aren't out of the question, but I'm not sure if they are at the same level. I'd love 1st focal plane. Side adjust parallax. Either MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL, NO MIXING OF THE TWO!

This is NOT a tatical rifle, I dont need to be able to take a .308 win to the turret and keep running. It doesnt have to be bullet proof, but well built, with exceptional glass.

Suggest away.
 
I have many Vortex and recommend them highly. Used to be a Leupoldn guy until I purchased my first Vortex. Awesome.

The PST is the best buy in its class and great for me in long range shoots/shooting. SWFA are also great for the $.
 
SWFA.. I've not heard bad about their scopes, but I've also heard some horror stories about their CS from guys that did the snipers hide group buy.
 
If you know your LGS owner and can get a discount, NightForce. I bought the ATACR 5-25x56,34mm tube,and mil,mil reticle. By far one of the toughest scopes Ihave handled. Plus the 120MOA elev./34.9mil adjustments. I paid just over $1700 for it.
 
At that price point, I'd probably also be looking at Night force. I think it's Midway that carries them, and sometimes has them on sale. As CDJ said, a local dealer might be able to beat that. I know you said it wasn't a requirement, but it will also be bullet proof.

Personally, I'd probably start looking at Leopold if I couldn't get into a Night force (or a used USO) for that price. I know you can get a Mk 4 with what you're wanting, and probably have some change left over.
 
I've been really happy with the SWFA scopes I've had, however the scopes are the only thing I really like about them. Honestly, I only order from them if buying one of their scopes as there are much better retailers out there.

That being said, Nightforce is better and the way I'd go, but they also cost quite a bit more for similar features.
 
If you can get a Nightforce with a FFP, go for it. But know this, the only scope in their NXS line that is a FFP scope is the 3.5-15x50 F1. The others are all SFP.

If you can't find a FFP Nightforce in your budget then go for a Vortex Viper PST FFP. You most likely won't find a Razor in your price range.

Forget about Swarovski. They are great, but they don't make scopes for your application.

I never said that they aren't suitable for long range shooting, because they are. What I said is that they are not suitable for the your application which is more than just long range shooting (even if those are the exact words you used). You are wanting to be able to adjust his elevation and windage without having to count clicks or look up from your cheek weld and want a scope with mil/mil or moa/moa crosshairs and adjustments.

For a long range gun, most shooters want to have the exposed turrets so that they can dial in the variables of elevation and wind (and the other stuff that comes into play at those ranges), this is a feature that no Swarovski scopes have. Are they good scopes? Heck yes. But they are not ideal for what most would want out of a scope for a precision rifle. They also do not have any form of ranging reticle, no mil-dots, not crosshairs with moa subtentions, they just don't have the features that one would want for this application.

And then there is the fact that most are well outside of $1500.

*To be fair, I have seen a Swarovski scope with an exposed turret to adjust for elevation, but I have never seen the same on a windage adjustment.

I have Nightforce scopes, Leupold scopes and a Swarovski. What I use most and like the most are my Leupold Mark 4 scopes; not that the other are bad by any means. The Leupold scopes have tactical turrets, glass that's plenty good enough for me and they're lighter than the other two mentioned above. Most of my Leupolds were bought used and my preferred ones are the 3.5-10X models with the M3 turrets.
 
I would also go vortex or bushnell in that price range. The vortex HD glass is very very nice for the money.
