UPDATE:

Disregard. I finally got the thumb safety out safely with some channel locks and a shop rag. The rest of the parts just all fell out. Sorry for the bother....

I decided to replace the grip safety and trigger in the 1991 I just picked up. I'm by no means a gunsmith but I have changed out these things before on other 1911's (70 series) with no problems. After a detail strip and clean, I swapped out other things like the plastic MSH with a Wilson Combat, Novak sights, etc. When it came down to fitting the trigger and grip safety, everything fit and functioned pretty good for drop-in parts with only minor tweaking. When I installed the thumb safety, everything locked up tighter than a drum. Neither the trigger nor the grip safety will budge. The thumb safety, although it moves, doesn't want to come back out either no matter how I wiggle it. Is there something unique about these series 80 guns that I'm missing? I searched the Kuhnhaussen book and couldn't find anything that would point to my problem.

Thanks for any help in advance.
