I have gone to a shot shell belt to carry extra ammo,at this time belt has #4
shot on one side and buck shot on othe end, with gap /no shells in middle.buckel is in back so all shell at front, brass up/brass down for buckshot.
at this time I mark the buck with a magic marker. not the best way to color in the crimp area. I do this to know which side is up. when I see the colored crimps I know belt is on right for reloading. hard to tell which is what with shells in loops, with out coloring crimps. I wear the belt when rideing the farm, varmint hunting.

does anyone have any suggestions as how to improve on this matter--
all suggestions welcomed.

I find it best to use different colored shells (hulls) for different shot sizes. Red, green, gold, purple, blue, etc makes it hard to get them mixed up that way, assuming you aren't color blind or shooting in the dark.
