I have been shooting Lee 200 grain SWC bullets made of wheel weights in my scoped stainless Old Army.

I size the bullet bases in a .446" diameter sizing die until they will pop into place in the cylinder stopped by the first grease groove.

I use a full load of Pyrodex P (35ish grains?) with a felt wad soaked in lube under the bullet; accuracy is spectacular, about an inch at 25 yards. Groups are slightly larger when using Pyrodex RS.

The bullets themself are unlubed, and there is zero leading.

I have a huge quantity of wheel weight lead, and not so much pure lead, so this works out great for me. :)

Has anyone else done something similar?

Comments?

I've used WW lead for Lee REAL bullets in my ROA, a little harder to load, but I load off gun with a strong stand and extended handle, so it's a workable solution, accuracy is about the same as with soft lead so I use the soft stuff as much as possible. I do use a stiff mix of the Gatafeo lube, in the lube grooves of the bullets.

Sounds like what I have been casting for one of my 45 colt loads I use mostly wheel weights as well and these 200 grain semi wad cutters do very well I originally did these as a smokeless "cowboy" load but decided they had a bit too much oompf to use in 45 colt conversion cyls so mostly just use the in the blackhawk and marlin lever action.
