Should I join the Minute Men?

Guys I live in southern california, in fact about an hour from Mexico. I admire what the minute men do, but I must admit there are lots of nay-sayers here (some of which I highly admire, though they make 7 times what I do, and dont live in the hood).
I am a paramedic, and I know that I could be used if nothing else for my medical skills. Medics do not take the Hippocratic Oath, though I WOULD render aid to any who needed it. The weather is exceedingly hot and humid lately, and I have a good pair of Steiner binos, and a fully stocked trauma bag, I need feed feedback. My friends are all young guys, but they agree with me. I honestly think that their parents however (some of which are ex EOD's from Nam, and even my Mom, a public school teacher), would mark me as "The Man".
What say you guys, believe it or not I highly value your opinion!

The only way you will know for sure is by actually going and doing it. If your schedual allows for it, and you feel like it would be worth your time, then by all means check it out. I doubt you sign any sort of contract, so if you dont like it on monday you dont have to show up for tuesday. Just be sure to let us know all there is to tell about the experience.

It is a chance to do something for your Country. That is always something to be proud of.

Go for it. I am contemplating using a week of vacation next year and going out to join the TX Minutemen for a stint provided the gubmint doesn't jump in and muck it all up. Let us know what you decide. If nothing else, you can say you did something.

It is easy for everyone here to say 'Yeah go for it, No Problem why not do something good'!. Many of us do not really have the opportunity (jobs, family, finances, time off) to be able to go.

You really need to think about what the MinuteMen stand for (what you know they stand for, not what the media is telling you), your abilities (time off, hardship, duration, cost to you), the rewards (doing a good thing for the country, life experience, probably a lot of good people down there, educating/saving lives, passing on good will, and supporting an important start up group/project), and the risks [costs in time, money, harm, etc].

Personally, you sound like you are a capable individual, not only skill wise, but responsibility wise, opportunity wise, and being able to help your country and the organization in question.

It is worth while to be a part of it. You know all those neigh-sayers are going to be just as curious as those of us here, and when you can tell them what it is REALLY like (us too, for better or worse [hopefully for better!]), I think that will benefit us all. Also, the experience for you... wow. =)

From what I've read, some of the guys who showed up were able to pretty much do it full time during the month. Others showed up for a day or two at a time as their "real life" permitted.

If you have the time to spare, I say go for it. Even if others disagree you have to be comfortable with yourself. I think it is a good and patriotic thing, it shouldn't be necassary but unfortunately it is.

Doing what is right isn't necassarily easy.

Yes I'd go down there.

I'm in the process if changing jobs.

But if this remains an on going deal I will be up for going to any ops they have going on in TX, NM or AZ; as soon as practical for me to go.

In the mean time I'm trying to gather a group to go down there from my area.

I'd go if I could - distance and school don't permit it though. You appear to have an opportunity many of us long for - don't let it pass without trying it out.

Just be sure not to "racially profile" while you're there, because a 90 year old white presbyterian woman in a wheelchair might try to sneak over.
