I stopped at a gun shop that usually only carries tactical stuff, black rifles, Glocks, etc. Today they had some consignment stuff and I found a Sig P226. It's marked "Made in W. Germany". It has holster wear but is in very nice shape. The guys tell me it belonged to a retired local policeman, it was his personal gun. They believe it's a late 80's gun. It only came with 1 mag, but has the original orange cardboard box, numbered to the gun. No paperwork.
A fine old Sig like that, one that may have been on patrol here in the city, was a nice find.
I'm sure I'll want to get more mags. Should I look for Sig mags, or MecGar?
I can't wait to shoot her.

Add; I looked up date codes on SigTalk. Mine is a 1988 model.

Greg Cote Mecgar or Sig Factory both will work 100%. I would avoid Checkmate if possible.

No pics? For shame!:D

I prefer the all-steel vintage Sig magazines, as plastic baseplates are one of my pet peeves, but the Mec-Gars are excellent even so.

Tough to beat a German Sig. Keep the frame rails greased and inspect the breech block for looseness occasionally, but otherwise shoot and enjoy.

Here ya go.
Very nice.

The grips are original and match the time period of the box. It originally came with two magazines, one in the gun and another in the recess in the box. The original magazines had the dovetail joints on the back...as opposed to the later "zipper" back ones. Current MecGar magazines will work fine in it

The mag with this one has the dovetail joints. I ordered 2 MecGar mags from Greg Cote this morning. I've got to say, he is on the ball. I placed the order online at 6am, by 10:30am I got an email telling me I have a package from Greg Cote coming my way. In 3 days I should have my mags. That's pretty quick service.

He is the best source for mags. If it is in stock there that is where I buy!

DCP_4380.JPG DCP_4383.JPG I got this one last year from a friend, dates to 1990, West German, and apparently never fired. No box but came with the owners manual and the original ammo it was sold with and a DeSantis shoulder rig. Also a couple of Pachmayr magazines. They were all loaded up and when I put the rounds back in the boxes they were full! He was the kind of guy to follow fads and succumb to peer pressure so he could talk about it but never have to use it.

I own two of these (and a West German P228). Superior to any pistols coming from SIG today. I second all the Mec-Gar recommendations. They are equal to the SIG mags (and for a time, Mec-Gar was producing OEM SIG mags - they might still).

WV, why did you go with a Barsto barrel? They seem pricey, while at least my OEM is shooting just fine.
