I've been looking at a couple of handguns and can't decide on which one...the SP2022 .40 cal goes for about $599 and the FNP 40 $499...any thoughts on either of these guns? Which one is "better" or does any body own either one and can share some info on the accuracy, quality, longevity, etc. Thanks and much appreciated.

^^^^ What Marcus said.

I have both, and I say get the Sig. It's an all-around better gun.

I do like my FNP-40, but when compared to my Sig, no contest.

Both are 'polys' so if the $$ are not a problem, I'd go with the German made Sig!...
But I think as with all guns, get a chance to see 'em, hold 'em and shoot 'em. How they feel in YOUR hand and how they shoot for YOU is the most important thing!
I own both FNP and SIG guns (and love 'em both)... and they are BOTH quality shoots...
But drink the 'Kool-Aid' AFTER you shoot the guns and pick which one is right for you.
Good Luck!

BTW: You might want to throw in either a CZ SP-01 or CZ P-06 for comparison!!

I kind of wish I'd seen that deal before I got my FNP9-m, but that's ok. I still really like my FNP, and it fits my USP 40 MTAC perfectly, so I still did alright.

I've got a SIGPRO SP2022 in 9mm that I ALMOST didn't get in favor of the FNP. Like you said, the FNP was about $100 less, and came with 4 mags - whereas the sig only comes with 2. 2 more SIG mags is another $70, so factor that into the decision if you want more than 2 mags.

I like the SIGPRO although I don't just love it. The trigger can be a little creepy sometimes, and the grip is pretty big. It's accurate enough, though not stellar, and you may find that the finish on the barrel wears off VERY quickly - so quickly, in fact, that I took a brillo pad to the outside of the chamber block because I just couldn't stand the AWFUL scratches it was taking on from the slide.

I've got an HK P2000 that is miles ahead from a quality perspective - fit, finish, accuracy, everything - much much better.

I do like the SIGPRO SP2022, and it fits a great role in my collection - it's my car gun. But if I was investing in something special that I wanted to shoot alot, I don't think I'd get it again.

I'd take a good, long hard look at the FNP. FN makes excellent weapons and is generally considered to be an underrated bargain in the handgun world.

If I had to go back, I might just have an FNP right now. Just my $.02 :)

NOTE - I've heard many times that the classic P line of SIGs is better quality than the SIGPROs. Just FWIW - not trying to bash anybody's guns here, just my experiences :)

Hey that's a GREAT deal - I'd jump all over that. It looks like that gun comes with 3 mags... maybe I was wrong about the 4 mags? Sorry about that if I was, just my recollection :)

The fnp I have has excellent machining, very clean on the insides. Reminds me of my USP. I forgot that little bit, though I doubt it has much impact on the function.

SiGPros are superb weapons.

I'd happily choose one over almost anything, my SP2009 9mm early model has never failed and inspires me every time I shoot it.

I own the FNP-40, and have shot and will buy the Sig Pro 9mm.

The FNP can be had for a song, I bought mine for $380 brand new with 3 mags. Plus, you get a free Bladetech FN holster and ammo pouch until August 31st.
My FN has been flawless, has excellent machining of the slide and hammer forged stainless barrel, and shoots like a dream.

The Sig has a good deal of Sig quality, but in looking at a Sig Pro next to their all steel/alloy pistols, it is obvious to me that they cut some corners on machine work to cut the cost down (which is understandable to a degree)

Both weapons reek of overall quality, fire like a dream, and both companies are generally seen as equals in the firearms world due to who they can call their customers.

you really can't lose with this decision.....

The Sig is a great gun. My only complaint is the that the grip is way too big. It is so much bigger than it needs to be. This was the down fall of the Sig Pro models.

They are the same size as the P229 roughly and do not offer enough reduction in weight as other smaller polymer platforms.

I love my FNP-9 and it is a HK killer IMHO. They are so cheap right now that it is hard to pass on them. When you factor in the shooters pack and the extra mags its a sick package for under $400.

I think the Sig Pro will be gone from the Sig offering within a year or two if that is a consideration

Flip a coin. Try to shoot them both and see which one works better for you. Both are great guns that will serve you very well, and will have similar controls

And this is hardly a "Ferrari vs Ford" debate  I'm a huge SIG fan, but even I know the SP2022 is not leaps and bounds better than the FNP lineup. That's koolaid talking there

Which one fits your hand better... The answer to that question will tell you which one to choose.

My hand is not your hand. The way I grip the pistol to shoot well is not necessarily the grip you use.

You need to put the guns in question into YOUR hand and then choose.

I own a P2022 in 9mm and FNP9... both will get the job done if I do my part. At under $400 both are a great value. The French contract brought the Sp2022 back to life along with the complete failure of the P250. Sp2022 is a good sub $400 gun. The DA is a little long but with the newer small grips the size issue is corrected IMHO.

Shoot them and then choose otherwise you are choosing based on subjective criteria which by definition will not apply to you.

I wonder how many people offering negative opinions of the FNP have actually fired one. The FNP has a lot going for it. It's decocker/safety allows for cocked and locked, the SIG Pro doesn't. Out of the box they're on par with DA/SA, I actually prefer the FNP's SA.

I was really excited about the FNX, but I agree with rellascout's assessment of the mag catch design. It's really subpar as are the wobbly back straps. The lever designs, however, are an improvement of the FNP.

If you want decocker only then go with a SIG Pro, but if you're looking for a USP type set-up than go with a FNP.

FNP can't do cocked & locked (unless it's the .45 model) but the FNX can. It can do it without changing any parts too, which is pretty sweet

They also come in black. It is available in both 9mm and 40 S&W. The 9mm can be found for less than $400.
