deej-

I understand and have no issue with your opinion that there are too many federal agents. We could even debate that issue at a later time (different board) in a civil manner. It is a legitimate topic of discussion.

This has always been about your dismissive and cheap shot against an agency that has been around in one form or another for over 200 years. I contend that your cheap shot was based on your lack of knowledge about the agency. The inspection service was created and exists today to guarantee the sanctity of the mail and by extension the first amendment (freedom of speech, press). The creation of agencies since then has no bearing on the reasons/constitutionality of one of the oldest i.e. USPIS. In fact, there is some dispute as to whether USPIS, USMS, or Customs (now ICE) is the oldest.

Since you refused to address the core issue of our disagreement, I refused to let this go.

How is this- I agree, deej, that you have expressed a desire to drop this thread under the pretext that our initial argument was about there being too many federal agents and not your boorish behavior. I agree to let it rest and that letting it rest is based upon your interpretation of our disagreement.

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin, literally "argument to the man"), is a logical fallacy that involves replying to an argument or assertion by addressing the person presenting the argument or assertion rather than the argument itself or an argument pointing out an inconsistency between a view expressed by an individual and the remainder of his or her beliefs.
