I had a friend ask me if there was a handgun that looked similar to the WE Hi-Capa Dragon airsoft pistol. He then showed me a pic and I know I remember seeing a handgun a long time ago that had a Muzzle break or flash suppressor that made it look fairly similar to this gun. I actually kinda like the look of it myself... I wouldn't mind a real gun like it.

I do know it has traits of both the 1911 and the Desert Eagle but I was wondering if you guys knew any actual handguns similar to it in style... I know I saw a few on a movie once that looked like it but movie guns could be anything from modified real ones to totally new designs just to look cool... any help would be appreciated... here is a pic.

Just a note, most if not all airsoft guns are based on real guns. That's the point isn't it?

thanks... that is probably as close as he is going to get to that gun haha...

why? whats wrong with sti? they are pretty good imho

oh no im not bashing STI I know they make nice guns... I knew I was thinking of some handgun but raceguns completely slipped my mind... When I saw a few pics I realized that I had completely forgotten about them.

that does look nice but doesn't look like anything you could ever carry or use beyond target practice/competition shooting. I saw they make some nice looking custom guns but I could imagine the price if I went through them to get my 1911 done. I am in the market for a nice carry 1911 though... still saving up for a good one.

I think it would make more sense if they weren't. Real guns are designed to shoot lead projectiles using explosive force. Why would you adapt that design to something meant to fire small round plastic balls using either a spring, or C02?

It would make more sense to me for them to design the air soft guns to fit their purpose, rather than emulate real guns. I think many paintball guns are a good example of designing for a purpose.

Not to mention, it's bad form IMO to point anything that looks like a real gun at a person unless they are about to kill or massively harm you. That's just my opinion. Airsoft and paintball should look like airsoft or paintball....

Some of the STI's mentioned are about as close as you can get. That airsoft gun, while pritty looking, is an unrealistic design as the front of the slide is separate from the back, thus in real life it would be non functional.

As for the purpose of airsoft, and why the airsoft weapons look like real firearms? Well that IS the point of airsoft, to be able to play "soldiers" or cops and robbers with something that looks like a real weapon instead of something that looks like a modified brass woodwind (I'm looking at you paintball!). After all, those plastic cap revolvers we all played with in our younger days wouldn't be those plastic cap revolvers if they were 100% utilitarian. They would have looked like a piece of a coffee grinder that made popping noises.

In a way Airsoft is the outgrowth of the first person shooter game. Its a desire to experience the thrill of battle without all the nasty sideffects of injury, disability and death. Plus for many people its their first exposure to firearms and shows that hey, guns aren't scary evil tools that make you kill babies, but are instead practical implements that do only what you make them

yeah, airsoft is also a lot of fun. we have a group of about 100 guys that play on weekends for a couple of hours. a lot better than paintball. itd be cool if you could find that gun in .45 :D

Except it reinforces the false notion that firearms solely exist for shooting people.

Actually a functional 1911 looking like that could be made rather easily. Krebs made one very similar to that years ago. It was showcased in American Handgunner. The front of the slide is attached to the dustcover rather than the slide. Makes dissassembly more complicated, but it works.
