I have a Yugo 59/66A1 that I have hacked around in true Bubba fashion.
I cut the grenade launcher and threads off, removed the GL sight, the bayo and bayo lug, the night sights (which were burned out anyway), re-crowned and re-blued the muzzle and did it all for essentially nothing. Some of the stuff I removed was of course just to keep it 922(r) legal.
But the trigger always annoyed me, it was built for King Kong and had more creep than a Stephen King novel.
Then there was the free floating firing pin, that Morse Taper always concerned me, because no matter how clean you make that channel, the design will cause the pin to stick sooner or later - maybe it will slamfire and maybe it won't - but dented primers make me nervous and the SKS was originally designed with a firing pin spring.
So I decided to put a few dollars into it and shipped off my trigger group to Kivaari for their trigger job and the bolt went off to Murrays for the installation of a new stainless steel firing pin and Wolff safety spring.
All told, both mods will cost about $110 including shipping - enough for another shooter grade Yugo maybe, but I'm happy going with a safer gun that has a better trigger - and those parts are also fully inter-changeable with another Yugo.
I'm happy with my decision - I'll re-post with the results.
