Yesterday I took a friend shooting with a Browning .22 pistol. Two things went wrong and surprised me:

(1) A few misfires in a recently cleaned gun (ammo: CCI mini-mags).
(2) Sometimes the slide didn't stay open after the last cartridge.

I am starting to wonder if this (used) gun has typical reliability. It seems to foul pretty quickly. Over the last few weeks it seems to misfire at least 2% of the time, which might be okay for a range gun but would scare me in a self-defense gun.

Hi. First, while a .22 autoloader is better than fists for possible life-saving action, I'd rather consider it as a fun target and plinking gun. Second, I can't answer your concern about misfires, although 2% from a .22 isn't out of line, in my experience.

The slide not locking back on an empty magazine is usually due to a dirty magazine mouth. Most people clean their guns, but give short shrift to the mags. Take the mag apart, give it a thorough cleaning, and try again. You'll probably be pleased.

Yes, clean the gun, FP, and mags.

Then get a Ruger 22. :p  :D (a Joke)

The .22 is meant for practice; I'll be getting something later for self-defense.

How do you clean a magazine?

Thanks,

Again?? How often do you have to tighten it? :(
I checked it after the last time I cleaned it, and it seemed okay...
But since that was a problem before, it could be again...
