In a similar vein to another thread ...

I have a Winchester 1400 and it seems that everyone in creation makes quick release sling swivels for Win 1300s, even 1200s and by crikey every other shotgun that was ever produced it seems has sling swivel kits available .... except of course the Win 1400.

It seems to me that fitting sling swivels is as simple as drilling the appropriate sized hole in the appropriate place on the stock (I've done it before, its not rocket science). My question is though, where on a Win 1400 can one place a quick release swivel at the front end??? The timber forend isn't very thick and I'm worried about the forend cracking, splitting or otherwise failing. The mag cap is vented and while I believe there is a mag cap listed on the Winchester parts list that has a sling swivel its a permanently mounted swivel and it also seems to be a little hard to find one in stock.

I get the impression I'm reduced to a very few options.

1. an Uncle Mikes universal shotgun barrel band swivel attachment
2. custom building a swivel which is part of a plate that fits between the mag cap and the forend.

I'm not really impressed by either idea really and have doubts about the ruggedness and potential adverse effects of either of these two options.

Any one got any other ideas????

Hey Spinner!

I am trying to recall the magazine cap on a 1400. I had a 1400 years ago , I never put a sling on it ...stud/ swivel set up. I might have used a length of Rawhide or 550 cord , slip knotted to "sling" to and fro.

Dang, you're in NZ ...

Okay , folks correct me if I am wrong on the 1400 mag cap...I think :

a) drilling the mag cap and installing the Michael's of Oregon Swivel / Stud will work. Just use the QD ( quick detach ) attached to the sling.

b) I don't recall Win making this avail from them , nor Nu-Line , nor Michael's Of Oregon ...anyone aftermarket as I have seen for example for 870's , 1100s...

My SX1 has the mag cap drilled and the stud installed like this , has been on there for 31 years....it is there if I need it. Not sure whom made mine...works with the MO QD though.
