Hi guys I was just wondering if anyone runs a slow twist 7mm rifle?

By slow I am talking 12 or 13 twist, and would it stabilize Sierra Varminter 100gr, Speer 100gr TNT, Speer SPBT 130gr, Speer SPBT 145gr?

The online calculators say a 13 would work on all but the 145gr and a 12 would work on all of them!

Has anyone experience of shooting any of these or similar bullets in a 7mm?

I am considering building as slow twist fast shooting 7mm.

Thanks

I can't help with a slow twist 7. All of my 7s have been factory twisted 1-9.5, and personally that's the slowest I'd go, and I'd prefer to have a 1-7/8.

I do have some experience running the lighter bullets with the 7mag. I've used multiple 120s at between 3300-3500fps.
For that I'd suggest the 120 ballistic tips, they tend to be a little tougher than other 120 cup n cores, and offer a higher BC.

The light fast loads are a blast to shoot, and are lightening on game, as long as only favorable shots are taken.
Probably splatter something 40lbs and under tho. They do goats, unless one is fairly careful of where they hit them.

Why do you want to go with minimal stabilization? Over stabilization isn't the problem a lot of people make it out to be. For target shooting using the exact twist can have merit, but , maybe not so much for hunting at distances most people shoot. Of course if you want to do it just because you can that is enough reason. Can also be a great excuse for another gun. "Honey I need a new rifle. This one won't shoot heavy bullets accurate enough." Wouldn't work for me. My wife shoots and would want to know why.

Only reason really I guess, is to me able to push them faster and not over spin them too much.

Concerned about losing accuracy or the bullets coming part from rotational stress?

I have an old 12 twist .280 Rem on a mauser 98action. It will stabilize from 120 V-max to 160 Speer BTSP that I have tried. It really shines with the Hor 139SST, Nosler 140BT and the Speer 145GS, and also shot the V-max well. Didn't shoot the 145 Speer BTSP worth a dam, did very well with the 160 Hot Core and also the discontinued 160 Mag Tip. 160 BTSP was decent, but didn't do a lot of testing. Got serviceable hunting accuracy around 1.5MOA with the first load I tried and just loaded it and used it. Wasn't impressed with this bullet on game so discontinued.
