smith wesson model 27-2, 8 3/8inch barrel, n165157 is the serial.

Gun is for sale locally and I just want some feedback before I decide to buy it.

-Can anyone tell me the year of the gun?

- In good condition, id say a 7 out of 10 condition wise. Some fading, wear marks etc. What should I pay?

- is this a rare gun?
. 8 inch barrel
.age.

any input is greatly appreciated.

He is at 750 otd, local pawn shop

Made in approximately 1973.

The 8 & 3/8" barrels aren't rare, probably the second most common barrel length for the time period.

You don't list what part of the country you're in, but for one in 70% condition in most of the USA, that's way overpriced.

For that kind of money I'd want one in 98% condition, original box and grips. They are a lot of fun to shoot though:

Thank you!!!

im in the midwest. It comes with stock grips and aftermarket grips.

Its definitely in the 70-80 condition range.

They just put the gun on display while i was there.... I dont wanna miss out on a cool historic gun, but it seems like its not that rare of a gun?

and its overpriced?

What would be a reasonable price in your opinion, otd.

If it was mechanically good, $450.00-$475.00.

But I'm definitely not an expert, and gun pricing isn't an exact science. What's a new plastic gun $500.00 or so? For fun shooting, I'd rather pay that for the 27.

The model 27 is a fine revolver but price is too much for the condition you state and the barrel length. It is not rare and the longer barrel is less desirable to me.

Great revolver... 8 3/8" is a bit long for the $750 price, they are selling for $600+ in upstate SC.

$800+ is the cost of a 3 1/2" right now, no box but original grips.

Vintage S&W N frame grips are going for $100++
27-2am.jpg 27-2, 3 1/2", orig. grips, some holster wear at barrel tip...$800otd,, worked for me.

Hope you find what works for you.

Never cared much for the 8 3/8" barrel length; didn't balance that well for me and the extra length made it very unwieldy. For the condition that you describe it as being the $750 asking price is rather high.

The 6 inch long barrels are more balance and sell s quicker if the need arises.

Saw one last week on armslist. Exact gun you're referring to except gun was in 98-99%. Box, papers, and unopened cleaning kit. He was asking $850. But the truth is, is it worth it to you? I bought a 29-2 nickel 8 3/8 last year FTF for $700. No box or papers. But gun was in 95-98%. Was the price right? It was a little high. Was it worth it to me to own a childhood dream gun? Obviously it was.

I bought one at 95% in a pawn shop for $500 and thought I did well. Sold it the next day to feller for $600. He was happy and I was plumb tickled myself.

You guys are awesome, thanks for all of the replies.

I'm glad I didnt get it, since he wasnt budging on the price.

Thanks all

If he's not budging on the price then I would say he's putting too much emphasis on it being a M27 or he's into it too deep. Been there done that!
