We have shotguns with flashlights, because lights are good, and no slings, because slings are...I have no idea.
Off-topic but reminds me of this: A friend of mine told me once of having to temporarily switch over to another patrol district. He checked out a car. This department has their shotguns mounted on the inside ceiling. For UP, Shotguns are issued to the car, not the officer . Anyway, he's developed the habit of checking the function of the shotgun before going out on patrol. It was a Rem 870 shotgun and it was rusted shut. So here he is in the parking lot holding the shotgun by the forend and slamming the butt against the pavement. Eventually he got the action open, but it froze open. The shotgun mount causes the roof to leak b/c the shotgun mount was never meant or warranted to be installed on the ceiling of the car. But that's what regs require. They issue shotguns capable of taking 3.5 inch magnums and limit the officers to 2 3/4 reduced tactical buckshot loads (there are some short chambered shotguns still in service)
I wish I had photocopied the departmental operations manual when I was in the auxillary. I'm sure there were some really stupid things in there.
