Smith & Wesson MP - REVIEW? Any Caliber

We have shotguns with flashlights, because lights are good, and no slings, because slings are...I have no idea.

Off-topic but reminds me of this: A friend of mine told me once of having to temporarily switch over to another patrol district. He checked out a car. This department has their shotguns mounted on the inside ceiling. For UP, Shotguns are issued to the car, not the officer . Anyway, he's developed the habit of checking the function of the shotgun before going out on patrol. It was a Rem 870 shotgun and it was rusted shut. So here he is in the parking lot holding the shotgun by the forend and slamming the butt against the pavement. Eventually he got the action open, but it froze open. The shotgun mount causes the roof to leak b/c the shotgun mount was never meant or warranted to be installed on the ceiling of the car. But that's what regs require. They issue shotguns capable of taking 3.5 inch magnums and limit the officers to 2 3/4 reduced tactical buckshot loads (there are some short chambered shotguns still in service)

I wish I had photocopied the departmental operations manual when I was in the auxillary. I'm sure there were some really stupid things in there.

After an extensive review of pros and cons from different forums and threads finally M&P 9mm is my first and handgun of choice. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow after almost 2 weeks of waiting time.
I just want to know specially from your extensive first hand experience if this firearm can withstand reloads. in my place imported cartridges like remington and winchester are almost 10x more costly than reloads offered by my dealer. Obviously, high end costly ammo is a limiting factor as far as target shooting is concerned although i put premium to its cost efficiency without compromising the longevity of my firearm.
what are other particular measures that must be considered regarding the use of reloads?

I have a the 9mm fullsize and compact. Both have bee terrific guns. I can't fault them in any way.

I have an M&P9. I has fired flawlessly every type of ammo. I've had no mechanical problems. I did have a problem with the sights (out of the box left and low) which was fixed by S&W in 7 days ship to return. The pistol has good ergononmics and reasonable accuracy. I don't shoot it as well as I do other pistols, but that is more the shooter than the pistol.

You know stainless will rust, right? Some people will neglect their guns or some have super corrosive sweat that will cause anything to rust.

I didn't know stainless would rust. I know it will corrode, and is susceptible to pitting from chlorides like you will find in sweat. I've been around stainless in conditions that rust steel pretty quickly and have not seen it rust.

M&P is fantastic

I am impressed with the ergos of the M&P. I use the small backstrap even though my hands are typical. The small grips feel better. I am thinking af trading my 40S&W for the 9mm.

I removed the melonite finish with Mother's mag and aluminum metal polish. Lot's of elbow grease and nothing else.Polished to a nickel like finish. It makes an attractive M&P 9C

How about some pictures?

I'd like to see that as well

I do not have capability to post pictures at this time(learning) I also did a sigma the same way and I was very satisfied with the looks of both S&W's. They make a very good looking pistol

I really like the M&P. I have two of them in 9mm. The ergos are great and as others have posted, the grips can be adjusted to be quite comfortable for small or large hands.

The accuracy is excellent. I shoot them better than my Sig 226. Mine are 100% so far, but I haven't put a huge round count through them.

I have not had any of the finish issues that have been discussed in other threads.

I highly recommend the M&P!

I have a M&P 9mm. I like it and it likes me. After 500 rounds though, I still don't know which backstrap I like better, the medium or the large. I shoot the same with both. When my hands get sweaty, though, I notice a little more movement on recoil when I use the large swell. My wife shot with the small and does very well. Her hands are petit. I've had issues with the rust, but as long as I wipe the slide with a treated cloth after I handle it, it is fine. This came up awhile ago, where I would come home from work every night, dry fire it a few times, and then put it away without wiping it off. After about 2 weeks, rust started to form all over the slide. S&W will have to do something about that on the .45 if they want it to be a real runner for military use large scale. I heard somewhere that the SA xd 45 also had rust issues in the beginning as well. Also, like Mec said above, Quinn at Gunblast.com likes them alot. He has some decent reviews on the 9 and .45. Quinn even sold his Glock carry and replaced it with his new M&P 9 he liked it so much.

I don't know why it wouldn't, although I haven't tried reloads on it. My range ammo is usually WWW, which works perfectly. My SD ammo is cor bon 115gr. I also have some Federal Hydrashocks and Glasers. It cycles, ramps and fires everything without a glitch.

I have a 9c and love it. I was concerned about stories of mags dropping, but haven't had any kind of problem or failure in 1000 rounds now... I have medium hands and use the stock backstrap. I love the fit of this gun! Now I have to get the big brother...
