A farm worker and his wife have been arrested after two suspected burglars were shot at their isolated home.

The man is believed to have grabbed a legally owned gun after they were disturbed by the break-in early yesterday.

He is understood to have fired at the intruders who then fled the isolated house at Melton Mowbray, Leics, before calling the police.

Minutes later, an ambulance was called to treat a man with gunshot injuries nearby. It is understood that call was made by one of the suspected burglars.

A second man was later treated for gunshot injuries after arriving at Leicester Royal Infirmary, 10 miles from the scene of the shooting. Neither of the men is said to be seriously injured.

Yesterday the home owner and his wife were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Four men, understood to be the suspected burglars, were also arrested

I think our way works better, imagine going to prison for defending yourself in your own home against 1 or more armed men?

The headline reads, "Couple who shot masked burglars can hold their heads high". Charges were dropped.

I personally liked this last one... The headline is, "Expect to be shot if you burgle gun owners judge warns criminals". Yup, that's what he said.

I am on the road with a Canadian. Nice guy, we get along just fine. But he truly thinks it is absurd that we have the right to defend our home and family with deadly force. Canada is apparently the same as England. You shoot someone....you go to jail. end of debate.

We can't just shake our heads at this kind of stuff. There are people in power who believe this nonsense.

Just like the saying goes, the King and Queen will ensure your safety . As subjects of his kingdom you have nothing to fear. THis is the kind of thinking they have . They like to envision America to become like Australia, Canada, UK, South Africa, etc. They want their citizens to be like lemmings ----defenseless to predators such as hawks, eagles, foxes, wolves and what not.

Do they suggest that a person just submit to being killed, robbed and raped? I don't understand why anyone would get up and go to work every day, if the first guy who comes along can just take everything including your life, and you should not stop them, can anyone explain this?
