I have read that the BM shouldn't be snapped, my question is can it be inertia discharged (fire when it is dropped)? Also, the safety doesn't activate on the hammer like a 1911, so is it locking the trigger or firing pin? I picked up one of these as a boat gun, wanted to find out before I carried it with one in the tube.

Star BM CAUTION!
First let me say I like the Star BM, great little gun and I own one myself. However, the BM does not have an inertia firing pin. The firing pin will protrude through the breach face when the hammer is lowered (Condition 2). NEVER carry a BM in condtion 2 as any strike on the hammer can set off a round. Condition 1 (C&L) is OK as the safety blocks the hammer. I perfer this over the sear blocking safety of the 1911 but have no problems carrying either C&L.

Hello. Rangegod is correct in that some Star BM pistols will have pins that protrude with the hammer lowered. Others do not. I'm not sure when the change occured.

I knew a guy who found out the hard way that some Stars have full-length firing pins. But his foot eventually healed.
The stated reason not to dryfire a Star is that the firing pin is retained by a pin coming in from under the rear sight across a notch in the firing pin. Too much dryfiring can break either the firing pin at the notch or the retaining pin, which is a pain to get at under the sight.
The hammer blocking safety is likely more secure than a Colt sear block.
A nearby store has a PD that is awful tempting, but I worry about those little recoil buffers.

Why is anyone lowering the hammer on a loaded chamber single action? Leave it cocked. And I have also never head of older guns having a firing pin that is not inertia based. Maybe a replacement or wartime req. from someone?
And what about 'recoil buffers' on the PD?
