as often as we see threads from beginners looking for advice on their shopping list, would the mods be interested in maintaining a sticky thread like this?

i'd propose a single post with a checklist of all the little stuff you'd need to buy to get started in reloading (i.e. NOT including the press, so as to avoid red vs blue arguments)

a somewhat cooler throught occured to me that i went ahead and set up. maybe it works, maybe it's completely stupid. time will tell.

anyway, what i did was go to midwayusa and create an account named "thr reloading" and I added a reloading manual to its wish list.

so what i was thinking was that rather than a sticky thread, this thing could act like a poor-man's wiki, where any of us with an opinion could log in to midway and add a product to the list so that ideally, we could have a pretty thorough setup to which we could point beginners

anyways, if it works like i hope it would, you'd log in as [email protected] (pw= thehighroad) if you want to add something to the wish list. and if you're a n00b wanting to look at the list to buy stuff, then you'd login with your own account and view the wish list of "thr reloading", then hit "add to cart" right down the list and check out.

of course, using an actual wiki would be a lot better because we could point to lots of places besides midwayusa, and organize it by mfg or something.

would anybody contribute to or use this? or is it pretty much a waste of time?

Well, it sounds like something that'd be useful, and I can't figure out any better way to do it besides a proper wiki (which take some effort to set up); having everyone post links in posts creates an annoying-to-browse list, and trying to consolidate them into a single post up front implies alot of work on (someone)'s part besides not working very well.
Yeah, I've tried the latter. It would sometimes be months between the times I updated the first post.

Sorry, though - I'm [not even] a newb on the subject, so I'm not exactly in a position to contribute.
