I'm having one or two stovepipes with every clip in my Kimber 1911 (5"). Doesn't seem to matter which cartridge. It may be the first or the last in the clip. Clips are Wilson Combat and original Kimber clip. Problem occurs in all of them.
I'm shooting my own reloads. 230 GR cast lead bullets over 4.5 grains of Aliant American Select. Muzzle velocity of about 825 FPS.
Could it be the ammo? Or do I have an extractor problem?

What happens when you use commercial ammo? If it runs fine, maybe an ammo problem.

What recoil spring are you using? A heavy spring with light loads might get you this problem.

And your extractor may be out of whack.

You need to eliminate the variables to better identify the root cause of the issue.

Good luck!

Oh oh, ezypikns, that's how it started with my Kimber, and I have one of the Team Match II pistols. Don't get me wrong, I love my TMII, but I wouldn't trust it with my life anymore...that's for my Sig P226, P220 or P229 now.

Better check this thread out...and take a look at the pics...totally jammed, bowed the frame, screwed 4 of my mags, and jammed up everything. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=128321

Keep an eye on that one, and if you need to and if you are still within your 1 yr warranty, might want to send it back just before your 1 yr warranty expires.

Cheers!

Like 45Badger said, try commercial ball ammo first. If it works fine with that, then you know its ammo related. If it STILL stovepipes, use the commercial ammo again, but change the recoil spring to a new 16#, (assuming its a GM 45). If that doesnt solve the problem, write again. But remember, only change ONE thing at a time, and then shoot it to test for reliability.
