My SSgt asked if I knew of any 1911 .45's in the $400 to $600 price range, I tried talking him in to bumping that dollar figure up, and getting a Kimber Custom II, but he insists on staying at around $500. I've been more into figureing out how I could get a Wilson Combat or Ed Brown, and I've never researched the other side of the market.

Does anyone know of a 1911 that is under $600 with tax and reg?

I found the Firestorm 1911 with a retail of $333.95. Thier web page claims less than a 2" group at 25yards with Cor-Bon rounds.

Colt NRM, it is worth the little extra it will cost over a springer, and in another league compared to the cheap guns.

Other options unde $600

Find a used Norinco, Charles Daly and Rock Island Armory can be had new for under 600. I've got two Charles Daly's and a Springfield. The fit and finish is a bit better on the springer, but the cheaper guns work fine.

My Auto Ordnance 1911 cost about $400.00
1000 rounds through it so far without a problem.
Mine's a WWII GI model, but the other AO 1911's go for between $500-$600
I love mine, it's reliable and a blast to shoot. Not bad looking either.:D

As long as you are knowledgeable enough to not come home with one of the crappy ones they've been making lately:

Feeling lucky or clairevoyent?

I'd go with an Armscor made gun ~$300-400 depending on plain GI creature comforts (RIA) vs SA "loaded" features (Enhanced 45). You have plenty of money left over for ammo and sending it back to get it fixed should you get a lemon -- unfortunately possible with any brand these days, even the ones costing 3-4X as much:
