"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." GANDHI("Gandhi, an Autobiography," M.K. Gandhi, 446)

Someone in the 2nd Amendment fan club on facebook posted this yesterday and it really took me by surprise. Anyone know of any other surprise sources of RKBA quotes? Post them here.

Nice! But strange coming from a pacifist... Maybe he wouldn't have been so peaceful if he had firearms... Hmm, something to think about...

Here's one from arch-liberal Hubert Humphrey:

The right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible.

I'd like a little more context. By "nation" was Gandhi referring to private individuals or a collective military sense?

A personal favorite.

"If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” -The Dalai Lama

George Carlin was a good man. :)

Pacifism is nice, until it fails. At that point, it's nice to have a gun tucked away to save your life.

Maybe the point to consider here is that one can be a pacifist, but still have the ability to think logically.
