this is not a request for educated guess, nor for repitition of your favorite taurus or judge bash. Experience is needed here.

am interested in a judge, just meets what id like.

What is the recoil like for the 2.5 and 3 inch barrels using standard .410 slug and buckshot and the pdx and federal .410 handgun loads?

how is the recoil with standard 45 long colt ammo?
with the higher powered 45 ammo?
how does it compare to standard 4.75 inch barreled saa?

I don't own one but I went with a friend while he patterned his, here are my observations re 410 buckshot:

Recoil was manageable
Range is very short; it's really good at what it's designed to do very close in. Beyond ten feet or so the pattern was disappointing.
It's a big heavy gun that only does the above well.

I have a public defender and just shot it yesterday. The Federal 410 handgun loads have considerably more recoil than the 45 colt cowboy loads. A cor-Bon +p 45 colt load about equals the 410 load in recoil.

Those rubber grips do a great job of absorbing recoil. I wouldn't want to shoot the 410 loads with a grip that had an open metal back strap.

I too considered a Judge, but now I'm leaning towards the Bond Snakeslayer IV.

I suspect that since the Judge is very heavy, recoil would be manageable.

I don't think ammo manufacturers would be making shells that had the public clocking themselves in the forehead every time they shot.

Watch YouTube videos. I'm sure there are many on the Judge.

I've had one for a couple of years. It's OK, but I went back to carrying my 629 for snakes. The pattern with .410 is as huge (as someone else said) past about 5 feet.

The other advantage to the 629 is I can carry the shot shells as well as two different .44 mag loads in one load.

And let's be honest, it's ugly.

I had no problems with the recoil from the Judge shooting both normal rounds and shot shells.

The recoil for me fell kinda between a single action cowboy revolver and a snubbie. The wife would put it on par with a snubbie.

with the higher powered 45 ammo?
The Judge is not +P rated for the higher powered loads.

You use standard pressure, SAAMI spec .45 Colt in them, or shotgun shells.
Both develop about the same max pressure.

I own a Taurus model M44-TEN-C 410ga/45Colt FS 3" in Stainless. I have shot is with 410 #6's and Full power Cor-bon's the recoil seem's to be about the same. The rubber grips do a good job. I consider the recoil somewhat mild comparied to some of those big magmums I shoot. I only consider it a home defense weapon and keep it loaded with 3 rounds of 410 shot and 2 45LC's.

Look for Tom Givens' article in last month's SWAT. Not very positive. Givens is brutally honest. He is a good man and his opinion is worth considering.
