i bought a tc G2 .50 cal muzzle loader and a spare 21" TC 30-30 barrel came with it and as i had a tc contender frame not in use i decided to make light walking rifle for hunting in heavy brush. i put a syn stock on it and a scope base(screwed and epoxied on) along with a 2x7 leupold. with the scope, base and sling it came in at 5.4 lbs. i fired two shots out of it and its not to bad in the recoil deptment. i.m hoping for 2-3 shot 2" groups at 100 yrd. eastbank.

Nice! It's short and light. Your accuracy goal is probably going to be realized without any tweaking. If not, my crystal ball predicts more vertical divergence than horizontal.

(Didn't need a high powered crystal ball for that...)

with that 21" barrel and you handloading you can actually squeeze a solid 200 yards out of it without breaking a sweat. you can load spitzers for that rifle but you need to be careful what you are using and at what ranges. They won't expand past a certain point but inside 200-250 yards you will be fine.

it gets pretty thick in some of the places i hunt and 100yrds would be a long shot. some times i sit on the edge of of a slope and ambush them when going to their bedding area,s. eastbank.

well with that 30-30 you can play with it using some cast bullets then? you can get up to 200 gr cast and use some slow burning powders and make a heckuva thumper for hogs and other critters. in that contender barrel you won't believe how versatile it can be...try some trailboss and some 110 gr 30 carbine bullets if you do handload.

That looks like an awesome set up to me! I love the 30/30 and in most cases it's all that is needed.

Now get some Leverevolution powder, 150 grain Noslers, and your 30/30 becomes almost a .308!

I agree with DS- I have been working on some loads for the 170 grain Speer Hot-Cor that are pretty darn good for the 30-30. The velocity of the LE powder and the strong construction of the Hot-Cor bullets make for some very impressive penetration.

I have a Contender super 14" in 30-30. I use Nosler 125 BT's with IMR 4198. Accuracy is really, REALLY good and I have taken several whitetails with it. As in DRT! Very effective.

Your setup leaves NOTHING to be desired in the application you mention. Enjoy the experience including the fresh venison!

I had one with a 16.5 3030 barrel and a 18 inch 4570 barrel. I say had them because about 10 years ago, the first time my father saw them, he laid claim to them and I doubt ill ever get them back.
