A fine looking pistol, very basic with good sights and none of the so called custom touches. Supposed to be made in Ilion as well.

Me: Say Remington, you put a lanyard loop on your 1911?

Remington: Uhhhhh.....no.....

Me: (long pause) It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Seriously though, its pretty cool and if its 100% USA made I will likely get one AND I will put my own dang loop on it!

Unless something has changed, even Springfield 1911 frames are made outside the country (Brazil). As long as Remington stands behind the service of the guns, etc, nowadays I guess we can consider it a "domestic" gun (like HK's, SIG's, Glocks, Brownings, Wincesters, etc).

SA 1911's are Imbell forgings, and very good quality.

this remington looks cast, which if done well isn't an issue-but if not, can be a big problem. plus, when you compare remington's cheaper products quality vs. it's more expensive products quality, you'll notice there's a huge difference.

if it were a 100%, it would stand to reason this info would be on the cover of the magazine, or at least mentioned in the article.

this gun smacks of foreign manufacture. (looks like the new israeli one's that are rolling out of the old charles daley factory)

not to mention, this is the same company that takes no pride whatsoever in producing UMC garbage, and does not back it with any customer service (i speak from personal experience).

remington didn't even include it's shotguns in the military trials, as they feared if it didn't pass the tests, it would hurt their civilian/LE sales. mossberg of course won the contract, as they have confidence in their products.

pass.

Looks like the same features as a Springfield Milspec except for the serration angle. Depending on what is inside will determine the difference.

Remington R1

I like the looks of it. I'll be sure to keep my ear to the ground concerning reviews and field reports.

On the right side of the slide I do not like the ugly "R1" that's a completely and uncomplementary typeface to the traditional "Remington" name on the left of the slide. I know Kimber has scripty type face on their 1911, but on the Kimber it works, on the Remington it looks like some newsletter editor designed it. Then you have the shiny barrel bushing--that piece looks out of place on a mil-spec styled weapon and should have been blue to match the frame.

Of course, that's just looks and I'd consider buying one (they're in the upper 500 buck range in town), but first I want to see how it shoots as times are tough and long gone are the days when I could just go out and buy what I wanted.
