The Perfect CCW

I don't have a CCW, in fact I can't get one where I live since I'm not a high party official or financial contributor (SF Bay Area), but on the occasions that I have, it's been a 3" 629, a Sig 220 or a Kimber Custom CDP II.

I suppose it's better to be alive to get in trouble than to be dead by following the rules.

Make mine a .44 special or a .45acp and I wouldn't feel under gunned or out of options.

Nice Kimber. Get those 500 rounds through it and let us know what you think. :)

BRAND NEW GLOCK -- Heck Yes!
Here's the story: So I wanted a great, reliable, durable CCW -- I searched and searched and finally decided on a beautiful Kimber Tactical Ultra II!

Wow what a beauty.

Well... it failed me... miserably.
It kept jamming (failure to feed, failure to eject, and it even stove-piped a LIVE round).
So I took it back to the dealer and they sent it off to their gunsmith, which took a week. I got it back on Friday and immediately took it out to the range and put 90 rounds of Winchester white box FMJ through it... the results?

Two failure to feeds.

That just will not work for me if I ever may need to trust my life with the reliability of my CCW.
So I made a deal with the store manager and sold the Kimber back to him (I lost a few hundred dollars -- but hey, they did cut me a check for the difference in price) and purchased the only pistol that I have always put my faith into... a GLOCK. A GLOCK 23! mmm... 13+1 rounds of .40 S&W should be enough

It fits perfectly in my hand... I went there planning on purchasing a G30 or G36 and they just didn't fit my hand right.
I own a Glock 19 (my very first pistol) and love it and the G23 is identical!
The G23 fits wonderfully in my hand and is a caliber with a proven stopping power by law enforcement. Anyways, long story, but I am ecstatic about shooting it Monday afternoon and will let you all know the results!

Best wishes, BE SAFE!

So now my question to you KASHTON...
Do you still live by you post here

All I can say is, if you are considering a CCW, PLEASE do yourself a favor and check out this gun!
????

Good luck with you new GLOCK.

RTFM

RTFM - Just what exactly do you think you are doing? That was not kind.

:scrutiny:

I'm locking this . . . temporarily. . .

kashton, when you come back to revisit this thread, you'll have the first opportunity to respond yourself about what happened. Without someone else posting some words on the board about what you might have said elsewhere . . . AND without having to wade though a huge Glock vs. 1911 war to do it.

Just PM any Moderator on the board when you return and ask that the thread be re-opened.

RTFM -- That seems like a fairly rhetorical question... why did you even ask? I guess just to poke fun but that's ok... good luck to you too

The Kel-Tec. P-3AT, 2nd. gen., after a little F&B and about 300 rounds down range and after some good advice from long time owners of the P-3 on one of their forums. One can not beat the price, size, weight or 100% lifetime factory warranty and GREAT customer service. The smallest little 380 made! If you have not tried one , get one ,if you don`t like it, trust me, you will not have any trouble selling it. :D

-10 on the Glock 36.

I've put several hundred rounds through mine, and it randomly fails to extract about 3% of the time. This is not acceptable in a CCW, nor is it unusual performance for the model. See discussion on Glocktalk. No jibes about limp-wristing, please.

I'm about to upgrade to a 5" XD 45 compact frame. I'm now thinking that a long slide with a short grip is a winning combination for concealed carry. As a bonus with this XD, you get to use the 13 round extended mags when concealment is not an issue.

I don't know of any other 45 that is as versatile.

So, in a thread about a 45 carry gun, you're going to espouse carrying a tiny auto, one with a well deserved reputation for being unreliable and in a caliber that's proven to be well under powered for self defense use?

Great customer service doesn't make up for a second rate product. I give KT kudos for trying to produce such a small and light .380, but they're execution leaves a lot to be desired. They need to up the price by $50 and the weight by a few ounces and put in higher quality parts and add more quality control.

And yes, once upon a time I owned 4 KT pistols. The P32 was reliable with FMJ rounds, the others weren't reliable with anything.

Thank God they do sell well or I'd still be stuck with them.

Yeah, I used to own a KelTec P-11 9mm (very first handgun actually). I bought it before I knew much about firearms, so really I was just looking for the cheapest buy. I had so many problems with that freakin' gun from broken ejector to loose extractor... and the mag always rattled when it had one less than the 10rd capacity. I ended up trading that POS in for a mere $50 just so I could be free of a headache.

I tend to think the best CCW is an adaptable collection of guns, belts and holsters. Right now, I have an XD-40 Service for OWB carry. I plan to add an XD-40SC for IWB Carry. I have a Bersa .380 CC for pocket carry with plans to upgrade to a Kahr PM9 for pocket/SmartCarry. Different guns for different applications.
