I talked to a very knowledgeable gentenman at AWA and got the real story on my AWA Longhorn. I musr say I am happy about the results, and very appriciative of him for filling me in on not only MY gun, but the history of the company. His name is Russel Simpson, and he is "The guy" who is instrumental on the AWA rifle comming to production, and holds the patent on the coil back spring system that makes the AWA feel sooo slick. Mine was an original Flat spring ans was modifyed by AWA with the coil spring mod whihc was then, in 1999 a $240.00 mod. They tuned the whole gun when they modded it and it is super nice. He also told me that it is a "real" color case hardened process using the old time way of bone and charcoal to color case harden the metal, unlike the process used on Ruger, Uberti, Beretta and the others that are a chemical process which is not IN the metal but on top of it. He also made the comment that the Longhorn and Peacekeeper in his opinion are the best guns ever made by AWA. It was speculated on my previous post by someone who responded that ASM "made the guns and sold or imported them to the US where AWA modded them and sold them under their name. This was only true for a couple years very early in the transition to AWA of the whole ASM factoy which AWA bought and re-tooled to start their own manufacturing process to keep hihg quality of the product. So the guns after about 1995 were solely made by AWA using their own employees and with re-tooling to manufacture in the tolerences AWA wanted.

It turns out my gun was made in 1999 which is well after AWA began manufacturing them themselves solely. He says they never did use Ubertis for Longhorns or Peacekeepers like someone else speculated either. All LH and PK are manufacturered by AWA. He said a great price for my gun used in the condition with the mod is way higher than what I paid so I'm extreemly happy with that information!

Not that anyone cares, but I though I'd clear up the speculation!

Very interesting.

If AWAs are all-American-made like the USFAs, AWA has NOT done a very good job getting the news out. I always thought they were stateside tuners of Italian guns.

Huh.
