Local store as a RIA basic model for 369. People that have 'em, seem like they love 'em. However, when I hold it, it seems like I'd get smacked by the hammer if I had my grip up to high when the slide comes back.

Next to the RIA he had a Charles Daly, which included a bigger beavertail, and I think it had an ambi safety. Wants $60 more for the CD. Seems like I couldn't get a gunsmith to add a beavertail for the $60 diff, so I think the CD is the way to go.

(As a side note, he doesn't believe me that they're both made by armscor, but hey, can't know everything)...

The other options is to spend the 550 or so for the Springfield GI model. Which doesn't seem a whole lot different than the RIA except for the checkering on the grips being much sharper, but still a base model...

So when all is said and done, I'm thinking a CD 1911. Is this a good idea? Or shoudl I really stick with more namebrand...

What is the warranty on the CD? For a value 1911, look at the Taurus too. Lately, I've liked what RIA has been producing but I don't know what their warranty is like either
Good luck on your quest

STI Spartan. As an alternative to the CD, you might look at the Spartan. Frames and slides are made by Armscor (the folks who make RIAs), they use STI internals, and are sold and serviced by STI in Texas. They have the beavertail grip safety, extended thumb safety, and all the other goodies. They also sell for around $600, so not much more than a base Springer.
