Yeah... the Floresville, TX Walmart has Independence FMJ for $10.47 per box. San Antonio isn't any better AFAIK.
Maybe they are at Walmart, I think maybe I have been shopping there at the wrong time and perhaps just I'm not willing to "come back after 8 when the truck is unloaded". Maybe I am going to the wrong Walmart, or maybe I been going to the wrong Walmart in the wrong state....at the wrong time...I would love to know were all these magical walmarts are that are carrying 22 at reasonable prices (as well as 223). All the ones around here are out, or only have 223 that is above 50 cents a round
Hahaha. That reads about the same for me. Although to be fair my Cabelas is a little closer (its only an hour away).Maybe they are at Walmart, I think maybe I have been shopping there at the wrong time and perhaps just I'm not willing to "come back after 8 when the truck is unloaded". Maybe I am going to the wrong Walmart, or maybe I been going to the wrong Walmart in the wrong state....at the wrong time...
Well I guess I could go to Dicks Sporting Goods.... no... wait..strike that..gotta boycott them.... Or maybe the new Field and Stream Store...no...strike that too..boycott them too...DSG owns them.
I could try Meijer but they haven't handgun ammo since December 2012. That leaves two local gun stores..where all they have is expensive 'match ammo' at $1 per round...however Cabelas is only 90 miles away in Louisville........
I have been saying right from the beginning that this IS going to last at least 2 YEARS. We are close to the halfway mark and I am not changing my mind. I stop by my local Wal-Mart at Zero dark thirty as often as I can, up to 7 days a week. I have gone as much as a week or more without being able to buy anything. It is getting easier, but it is no where near what most people would call normal. Normal is a thing of the past in as much as prices will never be as low as they were pre 2013. Yes Wal-mart seems to have 223 on the shelves on a regular basis but most of it is 50 cents or more per round. Nine mil sells out as fast as they can put it out and 22 is all but non-existent. Forty S&W, 45 ACP and 380 ACP are hit or miss and 38, 44 and 357 are almost as hard to come by as 22. The one thing they all have in common is that they all have increased in price. Without going into great detail, I can tell you that most of Wal-marts prices have increased by at least 25%, some items have almost doubled. Some may come back down a bit but they will never be as low as they were pre-panic.
I reload for more than 20 different calibers so I don't need to buy ammo other than 22, 22 mag and 17 HMR. I buy it for the same reason that some people buy silver and gold, it is a good investment. I am not the reason you don't have ammo, you are. Get your lazy butt out of bed at 4:45 like I do and stand in line at 5;30 like I do and you will get ammo. Believe me, I have plenty. See you at Wal-Mart at zero dark thirty tomorrow.
To claim new shooters to the hobby(5-20 million) have no impact on ammo supply and then go on to claim that someone getting a couple boxes a week at whatever price they can is the reason there is no ammo is simply a statement without a single fact to support it.
I've never once paid more than .40/rd for .38spl and I just started buying it this summer. I've also never paid more then .04/rd for .22lr, but some current asking prices are ludicrous. I was at a gun show a few weeks ago where a 100-pack of mini-mags was $50 and that was a common price among several vendors. And they actually seemed offended when I laughed.Queen of Thunder said:Really. Are you saying 22lr is going for 68 cents a round because thats what Blazer Aluminum 158grain TC 38spcl is selling for at my local Academy.
I think you are right. Although when the panic/shortage started...I first thought the shortage was going to last four to six months at the most, I was wrong.I have been saying right from the beginning that this IS going to last at least 2 YEARS. We are close to the halfway mark and I am not changing my mind.
And most new gun owners don't really shoot that much.
New shooters, or owners of new types/styles/kinds of guns, go out and shoot their new toy pretty soon after acquiring it.
