These three Navy issue Colts are all four digit serial numbered. They are all first year production, 1912...

These Colts are correct, except they all would have had the Type I "dimpled" magazine release lock. Virtually all were replaced with the later slot type for easier takedown.

Enjoy!!!!!

Very nice collection, John!

I only have one Navy Colt -- and she's well-worn. The serial number is 4995, and I've traced the manufacture to a batch that was made in August 1912 and sent to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It passed down to me from my grandfather, who got it from his brother. My great uncle was a torpedoman chief in the Navy during WW II. I guess he forgot to turn it in when he retired in the 50's. The gun has seen a lot of use and there's a lot of wear on the blueing. The walnut grips are pretty worn, but I think it gives her lots of "character". Here's a picture:

The only thing I've done is clean it and change the springs. Everything else is "as is". I know no one else has worked on it since my uncle retired 50 years ago.

I wouldn't trade her for the world!

Jim
