Other than the base of the bullet being covered, is there any other differance between TMJ or FMJ? Is the jacket the same thickness? Is it applied using the same methods?
Yes, no, no.
TMJ is a Speer trademark for their plated bullets, it is easy to get the "jacket" on all around when you electroplate the copper over the lead core. Speer's TMJ plating is a good deal thicker than what you get on bullets from Ranier or Berry.
Conventional FMJ bullets have the jackets mechanically drawn from strip or sheet gilding metal.
