Police say man used stick to rob hotel

By MITCHELL KLINE
Staff Writer

FRANKLIN -- Police have arrested a man who is accused of using a stick to rob a local hotel.

On Sunday morning, Franklin police were called to the La Quinta Inn on Franklin Commons Court where a clerk told them the hotel had been robbed, according to a police statement. The clerk said that a man had been in and out of the lobby several times then came back wielding a "large stick" and wearing socks on his hands and a shirt to hide his face. The man demanded money then fled on foot.

Marshall Andy Popple, 24, of 18114 Ambiance Way in Franklin, is charged with aggravated burglary, theft over $1,000 and violating the conditions of a bond issued from a prior arrest.

you know, I really expected more from someone in TN than to allow themselves to be held up with a stick...

La Quinta Inn in Franklin, Tenn., might want to consider beefing up its security as it was recently robbed by a man with a stick.

The clerk [told police] that a man had been in and out of the lobby several times then came back wielding a "large stick" and wearing socks on his hands and a shirt to hide his face. The man demanded money then fled on foot.

A suspect was arrested for the stick-wielding burglary, but the hotel clerk remains terrified of large sticks.

No, they will only make "sensible" tree laws.

They will ban trees with excessive numbers of branches first. Then they will go after the "Saturday Night Shrubs"; you know the ones you can get for little money at any gardening center without any background check. Next will come the hardwoods, because they are just too big and powerful for the ordinary citizen to own.

None of these laws will, of course, apply to the yards of LEOs or Government officials.

I Hope That Clerk Wasn't One of My Former TKD Students

How could the desk clerk allow someone to take all the money based on a stick? I'm thinking pansy! A stick! What's next, a tooth pick?

THis thread seems to support my position that ALL Americans should be required to study proper firearms ownership as a course of study to graduate high school.

I'm glad that today is not April 01!

if I was the cleark I probably would let them take the money also
1) if they are that desperate they probably would not hesatate to beat or kill me with that stick if they get the chanse and if I took it away I would be really tempted to beat them with it just because they were that stupid
2) if I shoot them it would be to kill and then I have all the legal issues to deal with and if I wound them they will probably sue
this way they are the ones that go to jail not me

If someone with socks on their hands, shirt over their face, and running around with a stick ran up to my counter and demanded money I'd be to busy laughing to hand any cash over. Seriously I wonder what color the socks were and if they matched :neener:

Let's be fair, folks. A "stick" can be anything from a twig thrown for the dog to fetch, right through to something tossed by a Scotsman at the Highland Games! The guy might have been using Nature's version of the Louisville Slugger for all we know.

I've seen those chip

Everytime I do, I want it to happen just once so I can see the look on their face when they fall back on their arse and that log lands right where it looks like it would land if they fell back

It is never the tool - instead INTENT of user of said tool

Stop, clear your mind and think of the last time you were standing at the counter of a hotel desk.

Now.

Two perspectives on this robbery, that of the victim, and that of the robber.

Robber:

Intent was to rob, period.

He chose to use a stick. He could have come in and not had anything.
He could have used threatening voice, curse words, yelling, low voice with vulgar innunendos, evil demeanor, shook his fists, indicated by body gestures [finger going across throat for example] intent to do harm if wishes not complied.

He could have grabbed a book of matches to indicate setting fire to papers on desk, he could have struck a match for emphasis. Coffee pot, tray , lamp, phone book, ...anything could have been used to indicate intent of the robber and to send the message to victim "in fear of my life".

Victim:

Condition white, complacent, false sense of security. Brought on by not having trained the brain, had any training, surveillance/ video cameras, maybe even on-site security making rds (armed or not armed, and robber waited until security out of immediate area).

Lessons to be learned from accounts such as this, never the tool, always the intent of user of said tool.

Now the political folks and others "don't get it" , they do not understand an inanimate object , like a stick in this case, cannot do a thing without a user.

Those that choose to not take responsibilty for themselves will be victims.
